Marketing Logic helps Russian companies migrate to domestic software

14 March, 2022

Marketing Logic is increasing its outstaffing capacities under the Time & Material model amid the departure of Western IT companies from the Russian market. The IT team helps Russian companies reduce their dependence on foreign technology, switch to Russian software and rewrite programs and algorithms to meet the requirements of Russian platforms and services.

Since the beginning of March, several leading foreign software vendors have suspended their operations in Russia. The suspension of SAP, Oracle and Microsoft had the biggest impact on the work of Russian companies and state-owned enterprises. The suspension of Autodesk was important for the construction and machine-building industries.

The main risks for Russian companies in case the software manufacturers withdraw completely are that enterprises will not be able to renew software licenses and buy new ones, updates will become unavailable, and cloud service users may face the fact that all functionality and access to platforms is disabled.

Companies operating under the on-premise model are in a better position as the software is installed in the companies' corporate IT circuit, but any updates or purchase of additional modules and versions becomes unavailable, and there is a high risk of the manufacturer revoking the licences.

"The withdrawal from the Russian market, even if temporary, of several key players supplying software at once, could have a considerable negative effect across various sectors of the Russian economy. This withdrawal may be particularly sensitive for industrial enterprises, as well as for the financial market. The banking sector in Russia is a very advanced area of the economy that has been buying and using advanced global solutions. Access to them may now be severely limited.

In such circumstances, we at Marketing Logic share our expertise, experience and the time of our team. We have written our products in advance for the PostgreSQL database management system (DBMS), and we are ready to help others. As a matter of principle, we do not raise the price for our work, and now we consider it very important to help Russian companies to switch to domestic software: we are ready to provide our employees to update the code, create it from scratch, write new algorithms and modules so that companies could switch to the new software as smoothly and painlessly as possible.

Our key advantage is that we see all the processes being optimized from a business point of view. We are less interested in just rewriting the code – it is important for us to offer solutions that will work in the current challenging environment, regardless of external circumstances, and that is what we are good at.” Dmitry Galkin, Managing Partner, analytics and development company Marketing Logic

Marketing Logic experts have some tips to make sure the process of “migrating” from one software to another is well organized and not confusing.

  • Assess the degree of dependence on the “leaving” solutions. If you have not analysed the business efficiency and impact of the implemented solutions in a while, now would be a good time to do so. This way, you can clearly identify the parts that are useful and those that are not particularly necessary but were just “part of a package”.
  • Estimate how much time you have before critical disruptions related to maintenance and system upgrades can occur. This time is the deadline for the vital stages of your migration to other software.
  • Analyse which off-the-shelf Russian-made solutions can fully or partially replace the most essential functionality. Does your team work with them?
  • If the only possible substitute is a version of the system that you have to create on your own, go back to Step 1 and identify the most important, vital blocks. There is no point in wasting money and precious time on something that is not crucial to the business. If there are any off-the-shelf modules available on the market, provide for their use in your system.
  • Assess the capabilities of your team and reinforce them with competent outsourcing – or new hires if they are needed not only for the implementation phase but also for future maintenance.
  • Make a clear work, testing and implementation plan for each piece of the system so that the total time does not exceed the time frame from Step 2.
  • If there is no time to find a team, find reliable contractors with proven experience. In the end, many people can do the job, but proven experience saves time in finding the best solutions.
  • Do not lose faith in your abilities. Russian programmers are valued all over the world for a reason – you will surely get a working solution.
